We were contacted today by an interior designer who was in panic mode over a disastrous upholstery cleaning her client received from a well-known carpet and upholstery cleaning company in Fort Myers.  This interior designer was mortified because she recommended the company to her client. The "upholstery cleaning professional" the interior designer recommended did not have the experience to fully appreciate cleaning a one of a kind, custom made $9,000 sofa. The "bleeding" you see in the two top pictures on the left are actually ink that was used by the upholster to mark where the buttons were to be seen.   The inexperienced technician had no clue about potential pitfalls when cleaning custom furniture and the end result of their actions speaks for itself.  In the interior [...]

Cleaning urine stains from your wool or silk area rug can be problematic for a variety of reasons. Irrespective of whether the stains are animal or human in origin, all urine residue comprises three main elements. The sticky part is known as urea, the pigmented part is urochrome, and the last part is uric acid, which forms as a combination of crystals and salts. The problem is there are many products on the market that will clean the stain and neutralize the odors from the first two parts but leave the tricky 3rd part untouched. So when the rug is cleaned and dried the crystals lie dormant until moisture is present once more as a result of damp, humidity, or steam cleaning, and the odor re-appears like an unwanted guest. [...]

Pet urine is one of the most common stains we see in our plant from households with pets.  Besides the nauseous odor that is caused by urine salts and bacteria, there are three other dangers to be on the lookout for and they are as follows: Staining – Permanent stains can develop on wool and silk area rugs if urine deposits are not attended too quickly.  Acids and salts from urine can damage rug fibers and no amount of specialty cleaning can reverse this damage.  Often, we see rugs that the owner has relied on “self-help” and “Googled” a home remedy only to create more damage to their beautiful Oriental, Persian or Turkish rug. Once pet urine is discovered you must act quickly to avoid permanent damage. If you’re going [...]

Removing urine stains, odor, and bacteria from your Oriental or Persian area rug can be problematic for a variety of reasons. Irrespective of whether the stains are animal or human in origin, urine residue is made of three main elements. The sticky substance left behind is known as urea, the stain you see is the urochrome component, and the third element is uric acid, which forms as a combination of crystals, salts, and bacteria. At the first sign of a urine accident, many rug owners will either go online and look for a “home remedy” or grab the closest spotting agent in an attempt to treat the urine issue. With over the counter spotting agents or internet-based “solutions,” these rarely work, and in fact, can make matters worse, because these [...]
