A Badger Can Be Your Oriental Rugs Best Friend

Rug Badger Removing Dirt From Rug That Was Previously Vacummed

Hand-knotted area rugs hide substantially more dry soil, sand, allergens, dust mites and other contaminants than wall-to-wall carpeting due to the construction of its foundation (woven versus glued).

Because hand-knotted area rugs hide abrasive contaminates so well, if not professionally cleaned and “dusted” on a regular basis, they will develop “traffic lanes,” suffer color loss and host a variety of allergens out of reach of even the most powerful vacuum cleaners.

Studies performed by the Eureka Company found that a 9 x 12 rug can hold as much as 87 pounds of particulate soil.

The foundation of a hand-knotted area rug is created by a series of warps and wefts.  Basically, in most cases, a woven area rug has a cotton foundation and strands of wool, silk or other natural fibers are tied around the strands and this action creates an “Oriental” rug.

Because hand-knotted area rugs do not contain a glue backing and the foundation is tightly woven, once sand, dirt and other contaminants make their way to the foundation, it is impossible for even the most powerful of vacuum cleaners to remove the trapped sediment.

Over time, dry particle soil can cut the rug’s delicate fibers and cause premature wear by slicing away at the rugs face yarn.

At Oriental Rug Salon, before we bathe a hand-woven rug, it goes through a specialty dusting process using the power of over 40,000 harmonic vibrations a minute that completely separates sediments and dirt BEFORE the cleaning process begins.  These vibrations are hundreds of times more effective at soil removal than even the best commercial vacuum cleaner on the market and allow our rug cleaning specialists to guarantee an exceptional deep cleaning each and every time.

Fun Fact:  Our rug dusting equipment is made by RugBadger and Badger stands for Bug, Allergen, Dirt and Grit Extractor Renovating.  And that’s exactly what the equipment does!
